Subject Access Request (SAR)
There are two distinct rights of access to personal information held by schools:
- The Education (Pupil Information) (England) Regulations 2005 gives a parent access to the educational records of their child.
- The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives an individual the right to make a request to access the personal data held about them. A parent may also exercise this right on behalf of their child.
You are entitled to submit subject access requests all year round, but please bear in mind that it may be necessary for us to extend the response period when requests are submitted over the summer holidays. This is in accordance with article 12(3) of the GDPR, and will be the case where the request is complex – for example, where we need multiple staff to collect the data.
In order to make this request, please download the Subject Access Request proforma (SAR), fill it in and return it to us. Please be prepared to show us evidence of your identity.
You can apply as a third party for someone that you are responsible for, including for a child. You will need to provide proof that you are allowed to act on their behalf.
