During Key Stage 1 pupils develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. They will begin to understand the chronology of recent events. They will learn about changes within living memory, events beyond living memory such as the Great Fire of London and the lives of significant individuals in the past.

In Key Stage 2 pupils continue to develop their understanding of chronology, as well as learning about changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, the Roman Empire, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, a study of local history, history beyond 1066, early civilisations and Ancient Greece.
