Year 3/4 Spring Term

This term we are continuing our study of early life in Britain. We are focussing on the changes between the Bronze Age and Iron Age, including a visit from our History Man, Paul. We will plot Iron Age settlements onto a map of Great Britain and try to work out why people settled in these places.

In English we will be studying the features of play scripts and writing our own script about the Easter story. Then we will write instructions for Year 2 to make their own Easter gardens.  English lessons will support our RE learning about Christian beliefs within the context of the Easter story.

In Maths we will be learning about division, length and measurement, time, money, fractions and statistics.

Year 4 will continue to learn to play the violin and Year 3 will be learning about a wide range of different composers. Computing will see us programming a conversation using Scratch and continuing to develop our understanding of how to keep ourselves safe online.

General Reminders

Games: Please ensure that your child has an appropriate Games kit on Thursday and gym/dance kit on Friday.   Trainers are required at all times and should stay in school. As these sessions occasionally result in muddy trainers, a spare carrier bag may be useful.

Safety: All earrings must be removed for both Games and P.E. If your child is unable to do this independently, please ensure that they do not wear earrings to school on Weds / Fri.  If your child has long hair, please make sure this is tied back or that your daughter is able to do this herself.

Home learning:

Your child will be set various home learning tasks throughout the term. Regular reading at home with an adult and learning of number facts remain a really important part of their learning. You should aim to read for ten minutes at least 3 times a week with an adult. Please continue to help your child learn their spelling words and times table facts which will be set weekly for a test at the end of the week.

In addition, your child will be set a Maths learning task which will reinforce what they have been learning in class. Also an English based task will be set; this may be a topic project which will take longer to complete. All homework, including spelling books, will need to be handed in on the following Wednesday unless stated otherwise.

If your child needs help with their learning, please encourage them to speak to their class teacher before Wednesday.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Mr Carter and Mrs Gregson
